Interest Calculator: Simple Annual Growth on Principal

See interest earned when a lump sum grows at a fixed annual rate with compounding once per year. Enter Principal, Interest rate (%), and Years. Outputs are Total interest and Total (principal plus interest). Differs from the compound interest tool, which lets you pick monthly or daily compounding.

How to use

Total = principal × (1 + rate/100)^years. Interest is total minus principal. The rate is applied once per year, not each month. For monthly compounding or ongoing deposits, use the compound interest or savings calculators instead.

Example

50,000 principal at 4% for 10 years gives total about 74,012 and interest about 24,012. At 2% the same horizon yields about 60,950 total. The gap shows why small rate changes matter over long periods.

Tips

Bank accounts may compound more often than yearly. This page is a teaching baseline. Inflation and tax on interest are not included.
